MeYouMe 2008

In 2008 edition, young participants reflected upon the topic: “Young protagonists of a public Mediterranean space”, focusing on urgent current issues like human rights violation and discrimination still existing in many Countries; the need for international debate and peace construction; sufferings of migrant people and deaths that turn the Mediterranean sea into a water cemetery.

Moreover, attention was called to those challenges that make young people commit themselves: educational and training courses to give freedom and chances to young people; the chance for new generation to achieve leading roles in their society and politics; sustainable development which is possible within responsible and united communities; the way for political, social and economic cooperation in the Mediterranean area.

Some important guests in 2008 edition: Nava Eliashar, Israeli activist from “Bat Shalom” and “Women in black Jerusalem”; Alberto Ventura, Professor of History of Islamic Countries at Università della Calabria; Sandro Principe, Regional Councillor in Calabria; Pier Virgilio Dastoli, Manager of the European Commission Delegation in Italy; Abdelkhalek Ezzahi, representative of the Tunisian Ministry of Youth; Musa Abu Zeid, Vice-Minister of the Palestinian Ministry of Youth and Sports.

Last year edition was promoted by Delfino Lavoro in cooperation with:

  • Council of Ministers, Youth Department
  • European Commission Delegation in Italy
  • Regione Calabria
  • MEDIATE, Euro-Mediterranean network of civil society
  • CSVnet, National Coordination of Voluntary Work Service Centres
  • National Coordination of Policoro Project of the Italian Church
  • Italian Youth Forum.

Many Italian youth organizations from the National Youth Forum, as well as many foreign organizations joined the meeting.

At the end of the Meeting, the young participants drafted a final declaration.
